  • Interesting Facts: One of Sri Lanka’s ancient capitals, boasting well-preserved ruins of ancient Sri Lankan civilization, including massive stupas (dagobas), ancient pools, and temples dating back over 2,000 years. A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sacred Bodhi Tree (Sri Maha Bodhi) believed to be a sapling of the original Bodhi tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment.
  • Important Facts: Spread out over a large area, requiring transportation (tuk-tuk, bicycle, or car) to explore. Numerous guesthouses and some hotels available. Dress respectfully when visiting religious sites (shoulders and knees covered).
